We are so pleased to welcome Dr. James Griffith to our Hendersonville location!
Dr. James Griffith is a board-certified Dermatologist and a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, who joined Loven Dermatology in 2019. He practices in the Hendersonville office and specializes in procedural dermatology, including the management of complex skin cancers and facial reconstruction following Mohs surgery. He also has specialized expertise in cosmetic procedures, including fillers, neuromodulators and chemical peels.
Background and education
As a native Tennessean, Dr. Griffith grew up in Nashville playing the fiddle, and even performed on the Grand Ole Opry before pursuing his higher education. He earned his undergraduate degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado, followed by a Master’s in Biology at Mississippi College, where he graduated cum laude. He then spent a short period teaching as an adjunct professor at Mississippi College and conducting research on wound healing before he enrolled in the University of Mississippi School of Medicine.
While in medical school, he received numerous academic and clinical research scholarships, and also was inducted into the honorary medical society, Alpha Omega Alpha. He subsequently completed a residency in Dermatology and a fellowship in clinical research, lasers and photomedicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. During his tenure at Henry Ford Hospital, the Department of Dermatology was nationally recognized as one of the best dermatology residency programs in the country. Then, Dr. Griffith completed a second fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology specializing in facial and aesthetic reconstructive surgery.

Specialties and expertise
Dr. Griffith utilizes his extensive training to deliver excellent patient care using the most effective treatment options. He believes in a customized, personal approach understanding each individual’s needs and circumstances. His patients appreciate him for his gentle, pain-free touch, considerate care, attention to detail and dedication to optimizing each patient’s surgical outcomes and aesthetic appearance with evidence-based medicine and advanced reconstructive techniques. Also, he has published extensively in peer-reviewed medical literature, authoring over 30 scientific articles, textbook chapters, and commentaries. Dr. Griffith has spoken at local, regional, national and international meetings. This includes the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the American College of Mohs Surgery, and the Congress of the Pigmentary Disorders Society.
His special interest include Mohs micrographic surgery, facial reconstruction, the surgical management of melanoma, scar rehabilitation, and cosmetic dermatology. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Anne, and son, Tyler.
